About The Lodge
A Dream Realized, A Legacy Rekindled…The Return of a Mountain Tradition
In 2003, the Aspen Fire swept across Mount Lemmon, devastating large portions of Summerhaven and destroying many cherished landmarks, including the area’s most iconic lodges. For years, locals and visitors alike have felt the absence of a welcoming, central place to gather and stay overnight on the mountain.
Mount Lemmon Lodge is the answer to that longing. Thoughtfully designed to honor the charm and legacy of the original lodges, while embracing sustainability and comfort, it marks the return of a long-missing cornerstone of this beloved mountain village.
Rooted in History. Designed for Today.
Mount Lemmon Lodge was dreamed up and brought to life by Diana Kuhel Osborne, a lifelong lover of Mount Lemmon and an accomplished architect. Drawing from her family’s deep connection to the mountain, one that spans four generations, Diana envisioned a lodge that would both restore the spirit of the past and welcome a new era of visitors to this treasured “sky island.”
The result is a rustic-modern, Alpine-inspired lodge nestled among the pines, just steps from the heart of Summerhaven. With 16 rooms, a beautiful central lobby, expansive deck, on-site dining by Beyond Bread, and a one-of-a-kind artisan gift shop, the Lodge was created to be a hub for guests and a gathering place for the community.
Built with Purpose
This is not just a place to sleep, it’s a place to be. Whether you’re warming your hands by a fire table on the deck, wandering the Forest Gardens, browsing local handmade goods, or hiking just steps from your door, the Lodge invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and connect—with nature, with history, and with one another.
Mount Lemmon Lodge is once again the heartbeat of Summerhaven, and a dream, years in the making, finally brought to life.
A Family Legacy
Diana’s great-grandfather, Eugene Childs, helped found Summerhaven in 1915. Since then, her family has continued to steward the land and share their love of Mount Lemmon with generations of Tucsonans and travelers. Diana herself grew up spending summers here, dancing at the Mt. Lemmon Inn, snacking on raspberries from secret gardens, and reveling in the quiet magic only this mountain offers.
With the support of her husband, John Osborne, whose family shared deep roots on Mount Lemmon with Diana, the couple led the design and construction of the Lodge with the same care, creativity, and thoughtfulness that defines all Diana’s architectural work. Together, they’ve created a space that blends history, nostalgia and modern hospitality.
