Picnic Spots & Scenic Views Near Mount Lemmon Lodge

One of the simplest yet most rewarding ways to enjoy Mount Lemmon is with a picnic surrounded by the mountain’s natural beauty. Within just a few miles of the Lodge, you’ll find several serene spots perfect for a quiet lunch or an afternoon of relaxation. Before you head out, consider grabbing fresh sandwiches, salads, or pastries from Beyond Bread, conveniently located inside the Lodge—making it easy to take a delicious meal on the go. Please note: many of these areas require either a Coronado National Forest pass or a National Parks pass for parking.

Marshall Gulch Picnic Area (Less than 1 mile)

Just down the street from the Lodge, Marshall Gulch is one of the most beloved picnic spots on Mount Lemmon. Tucked away in a shady canyon at nearly 8,000 feet, it offers picnic tables alongside a gentle stream, making it the perfect starting or ending point for a hike. The nearby Cap Rock Trail also provides a scenic backdrop for those who want to stretch their legs before or after lunch.

Windy Point Vista (Approx. 3 miles)

One of the most iconic viewpoints on the mountain, Windy Point offers sweeping vistas of the Sonoran Desert floor below. Perched along the Catalina Highway, it’s the ideal place to spread out a picnic while watching the changing light play across the rugged landscape. Sunset here is especially memorable.

Rose Canyon Lake (Approx. 4 miles)

Nestled among towering pines, Rose Canyon Lake feels worlds away from the desert below. Bear Canyon Overlook (Approx. 2 miles)

Inspiration Rock (Approx. 1 mile)

Just minutes from the Lodge, Inspiration Rock offers a mix of intimate tree cover and breathtaking views. Its location makes it an easy choice for a spontaneous picnic when you don’t want to travel far.
