Spring

As the snow melts and the mountain awakens, Mount Lemmon becomes a wonderland of wildflowers, fresh air, and outdoor adventures.

  • Hiking trails reopen in full bloom, perfect for spotting wild iris, lupine, and penstemon.
  • Birdwatching is prime as migratory species return to the sky island. Listen for warblers, hummingbirds, and the iconic Mexican jay.

Spring also marks the return of local events and craft fairs, making it a great time to explore the shops of Summerhaven.

Summer

At over 7,700 feet in elevation, and rising even higher toward Ski Valley and the tippy-top of Mount Lemmon itself, Mount Lemmon’s Summerhaven offers a blissful escape from the scorching desert heat below. Temperatures here are often 20 to 30 degrees cooler than Tucson, making it one of Arizona’s most beloved summer retreats. Surrounded by towering pines, Douglas firs, and alpine meadows, the mountain buzzes with energy, fresh air, and endless outdoor activities.

  • Music on the Mountain fills the lodge’s expansive deck every weekend with live performances from 1–4 PM.
  • Hiking and mountain biking are in full swing, with cool temps and trails like Aspen Draw, Sunset Trail, and Bug Spring Trail.
  • Stargazing is phenomenal, with clear skies and telescope access at the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.
