Mount Lemmon Weather
Whether you’re planning a summer escape from the desert heat or a cozy winter getaway in the pines, Mount Lemmon weather offers a refreshing change from the valley below. At elevations ranging from 7,000 to over 9,000 feet, Mt. Lemmon experiences four distinct seasons, each bringing its own kind of magic. Here’s what you can expect throughout the year:
Spring (March – May)
- Spring on Mount Lemmon arrives a bit later than in the lowlands, making it a true alpine experience. Snow may linger into March, especially at higher elevations, but by April, the forest begins to bloom with wildflowers and budding aspens.
 - Average Highs: 50s–70s °F
 - Average Lows: 30s–40s °F
 - Light jackets are often needed, especially in the mornings and evenings. Spring is also a great time for hiking and birdwatching, as migratory species return and the forest comes alive.

Summer (June – August)
- Thanks to its elevation, Mt. Lemmon weather is a true summertime gift—often 25–30 degrees cooler than Tucson. Expect warm days, cool nights, and afternoon monsoons by mid-to-late July. The shady pine, fir, and aspen forests and meadows make it perfect for hiking, biking, and relaxing outdoors.
 - Average Highs: 70s–80s °F
 - Average Lows: 50s–60s °F
 - Rain gear is recommended for sudden monsoon storms, which are usually brief but intense. Summer is also peak season for area attractions and events like Music on the Mountain.

Autumn (September – November)
- Autumn brings crisp air and a spectacular show of color as the aspens, oaks, alders, and maples turn golden, red, and amber. This is one of the most scenic times to visit, with fewer crowds and dramatic changes in scenery.
 - Average Highs: 50s–70s °F
 - Average Lows: 30s–50s °F
 - Mount Lemmon weather in the fall is ideal for photography, hiking, and cozy evenings by a fire. Be sure to check foliage reports if you’re planning a leaf-peeping weekend.

Winter (December – February)
- Winter transforms Mount Lemmon into a snow-capped alpine wonderland. Snowfall varies by year but often blankets the upper elevations, including Ski Valley—the southernmost ski area in the U.S.
 - Average Highs: 40s–50s °F
 - Average Lows: 20s–30s °F
 - Chains, front-wheel, or all-wheel drive are often required when snow is on the road. Mount Lemmon weather updates are crucial before heading up during or after a storm. Winter activities include snowshoeing, skiing, sledding, and simply enjoying the peaceful snowy pines.
